Meet FUJI!!
our newest resident at Kitties from Heaven
On June 3, 2008, I was contacted about a possible placement for Fuji.
Her rescuer was US Marine, Stationed in Okanawa, Japan. He and his
wife had been rescuing animals while he was stationed there, and had
met an old woman who cared for the local cat population. She had been
caring for Fuji, who was feral when she first began caring for her. She
had since become approachable and allowed herself to be petted and
brushed. When the old woman took her to the vet, it was found that she
tested positive for FIV
Rather than have her euthanized, her rescuer and his wife decided to
have her sent to the United States. They set up a spot for her with a
rescue in Chiciago and flew her to Seattle where he had family. Once
Fuji arrived in Seattle, she awaited her transport at the Airpet Hotel.
The rescue in Chicago was unable to be reached, not returning phone
calls or e-mails.
Her rescuers then contacted another rescue in Michigan and arranged
for a placement for her. She had been at the pet hotel long enough for
her health certificate to expire. Once a new one was obtained, the
rescue in Michigan could not be reached.
The very last day of her stay at the Airpet Hotel, I was able to make
contact with her rescuers. Much to everyone's delight, she was only an
hour's drive away from where my husband is stationed in Washington.
He picked her up and brought her home, and she will be living with him
until she arrives here in Iowa in July.
