Okay, first, allow me to introduce Elron.

Elron came to Kitties from Heaven from a rescuer in Pennsylvania.  She
worked for a special needs rescue, but they didn't have enough room to
take in yet another cat.  Elron has FIV, which is the feline equivalent of
HIV in humans.  He is very healthy otherwise, but he is just more prone to
infections.  He has been with us since 2004 and is one of our first special
needs rescue cats.  He has faced the common FIV related afflictions while
he has been in the care of Kitties from Heaven, such as upper respiratory
infections and dental disease.  In 2007 Elron had all but 2 of his teeth
removed due to this problem.  Cats with FIV very commonly loose their
teeth at an early age due to the conflict in their immune system.

Elron's current affliction is a result of deteriorating bone density.  Much
the same as people, when animals age, they begin to lose calcium.  His
problem is simple.  He fractured his hip.  He gets around, really, without
complaining all that much.  He sleeps on the couch and can still scale the
baby gate.  The indication to me that something was wrong was his limp
and the fact that his patience with my 2 year old son was growing thin
(Elron is Brady's FAVORITE cat!).
The vet gave us 2 options after seeing the xrays today.  He proposed that
we either amputate, or do surgery to remove the part of the bone that had
fractured and allow the muscle to hold the femur in place.  He
recommended the second option, as it would make him more cmofortable
and he would still have four fully functioning legs.
Right now Elron is sedated and comfortable, but we will be scheduling his
surgery within the week.  If anyone can help with donations toward his
medical care, that would be fantastic.  I was honestly afraid to ask how
much it was going to cost, so i dont have a figure to quote here.

Kitties from Heaven is a 501(3)c non profit organization so all donations
