C 2009 Kitties From Heaven
2008
a year in review
2008 was a very eventful year for Kitties From Heaven!

First of all, and most exciting for me, I was able to return to Iowa and
resume running my rescue personally!

We took in two new resident Kitties this year.
Fuji (FIV+) came to us from Okanawa, Japan where she was rescued
from a feral colony by a local resident, who, with the help of a US
Marine, sent her to the US.  Kitties from Heaven was contacted to take
her after two other rescues had committed to her and then left her in
the airport hotel at the Seattle Tacoma Airport.  I was living outside of
Tacoma at the time and was able to pick her up on her last day there!
She is still very skiddish, but is healthy and happy otherwise!

Tabatha came to us from much closer!  We picked her up in Des
Moines, Iowa in December.  She was 4 months old at the time, and
once she was let of the cage she had been living in, she was a little
fireball!  Now 6 months old, she is still, sadly, testing positive for FeLV,
but don't tell her there.  She is running and playing with all the energy
of 10 kittens!  She is a character... there's no other way to describe her.
We LOVE having her here.  She livens up everyone!

Sadly, four of our friends went to the bridge this year.  Legolas and
Punkin passed away from diseases related to their FeLV before I
moved home in May.  Coleridge passed away from a heart condition
this spring, and Simon passed away in October from liver disease
related to his FIV.  We miss all of them dearly.

We faced a couple of medical issues this year as well.  Mr Cat had an
abscessed tooth that led to the decision to removed what teeth he had
left.  He hasn't noticed, and it certainly hasn't slowed down his lion like
appetite!

Elron is suffering from a bone deficiency that causes his bones to be
brittle.  The head of his femur has fractured off in his hip socket,
reducing the range of motion.  We began raising funds for his surgery
this fall and so far have raised over half of what he needs!  We only
have $200 left to go.  Meanwhile, it's a full time job to keep Elron from
jumping off counters and climbing the furniture.  You'd think he was a
kitten again!

I'd also like to send out a special thank you to everyone who has
helped Kitties From Heaven run smoothly this year!!

We do currently have two cats who do not receive any sponsorship at
all, Mr Cat and Buck Rogers.  If anyone is interested in sponsoring
them, let me know.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us out this past year.  Without
you, our special needs rescue would not exist!

We're looking forward to another great year and we hope you can
share it with us!
